Busy Memorial Season

Like all of Jehovah’s people around this time of the year we have been very busy. No doubt you are enjoying having a share in the memorial invitation work during the special campaign. Our congregation is showing a very zealous spirit with around 30 participating in the auxiliary pioneer service this month! We are excited to be attending our first memorial here in Spain. The congregation has made arrangements to have the memorial at a hotel that is located in the center of the city. This will make it practical for interested ones who may be arriving by public transportation. Our memorial will be held at 8:30pm. The congregation is quite excited about this particular memorial and for good reason. For at least the past two years the attendance at the memorial has continually increased. Last year there were over 110 in attendance and this year we are hoping to have even more! Keep in mind that we only have 39 publishers, so there is a good chance that we will be out numbered by interested ones from the territory. Our memorial speaker will be our brother from Barcelona who was assigned with his wife to our congregation from the couples’ school. We are sure that the talk given will be interesting and thought provoking for all in attendance.

This past week we had the pleasure of receiving our circuit overseer visit. They are a Spanish couple who have only been in the English field since October of last year. Despite this fact the brother’s English is very good. It goes to show you that Jehovah’s organization truly gives some of the best training. The brother explained to me that he likes to get feedback from native speakers after his talks and this helps him to learn the language better. What a humble attitude and good example. We enjoyed the good support throughout the week during the service meetings. We also enjoyed learning more about how to use the new revised translation of the Bible in our ministry. We had the opportunity to meet with the circuit overseer to discuss how we are settling in and adjusting. This proved to be a blessing at the right time because we were going back and forth with making decisions regarding certain avenues of our service. This goes to show us that once again Jehovah knows exactly what we need and when we need it. Since being here in Spain for 6 months we have been able to enjoy two different circuit overseer visits in two different languages.

The last couple of weeks have been very busy at work due to second term exams. Most of my classes have prepared exams already and I just have to administer them. But for some classes such as my private business classes and my public school class I have to construct the exams based on what the students have been learning. After the students take the exams then I must correct them and submit the results to the academy. Well as you might guess all of this takes time. Thankfully, I’m feeling more at ease with my work and am constantly finding ways to do things more efficiently. Apart from reviewing 1st, 2nd and 3rd conditional sentence structures during the weekend there are some more fun and interesting things on the horizon. Next week starting on the 17th the academy will be closed until the 25th due to spring break. I’m looking forward to this for several reasons. First it means that I will be able to use the free time to rest and re-energize. Second the extra time will allow me to share in the ministry more with my wife and the congregation. Third, I’m looking forward to doing some site seeing in the Basque country. As you may know we are planning a day trip to San Sebastian and we hope to do this during the break. We would like to take a day to visit the Guggenheim museum as well as some other museums in the area. I’ve heard some talk that the congregation is planning a picnic during the break so that will also be nice to attend. We may even make it up to the mountains to do some skiing, who knows. We hope that you are enjoying your memorial season and staying busy with plenty of activity in support of Kingdom interests.
