Freelancing on Fiverr

We hope that your having a great week where ever you are. Things have been pretty busy with us here in Spain. Since summer is coming to an end many in our hall are gearing up for the new service year. We had a nice announcement of a young brother announced as a regular pioneer the other week. Another thing that is common here in Spain is that public talks can be quite hard to schedule since many brothers take holidays for several weeks to a month during the summer. It’s not strange to see the brothers who are left possibly give two public talks during the same month. But since we are working for Jehovah we do it with joy!

We’ve started to get busy with our teaching work as well since many of our clients are returning from their holidays. This busy pace should continue throughout the rest of the year. We’re also working on several different projects as well as continuing to develop our blog so there is never a dull moment! We’ve gotten some great feedback on some of the recent job-related posts and have even been able to help some find work. So we are pretty excited about that. We also realize some may be interested in supporting themselves by doing something different than teaching. So we will be sharing ideas on how to do this in future posts with a focus on working from home or online in order to have maximum flexibility.

Fiverr Jobs

So let’s talk about freelancing with Fiverr. What is Fiverr? It is a marketplace for creative and professional services. As the name implies all the services start at $5. Fiverr is a great place for freelancers or someone who would like to work part-time. We like the platform for needgreaters, pioneers or anyone really who would like to supplement their income because of the remote nature of the work. Pretty much all of the jobs on Fiverr are able to be completed remotely or from anywhere in the world. So if you are serving in Mexico, Thailand or South America you can work as long as you have access to the internet.

You generally set up a job or a gig as they call it and determine the price and conditions. Here are some of the categories on the website to give you an idea of what you could do: Graphics & Design, Digital Marketing, Writing & Translation, Video & Animation, Music & Audio, Programming & Tech, Advertising, Business, etc. Within each of these main categories there are several sub-categories that are even more specific. Your probably wondering if you can only charge $5 for your gigs. The answer is no. You can set the price at whatever you want or you can have three different options of your service offering different benefits for different price points.

Pros of Fiverr

Some nice things about Fiverr are that it’s relatively easy to get set up. If you have a skill and you position yourself correctly you could realistically supplement your earnings or even support yourself in your assignment. Usually needgreaters serve in countries where the currency is not as strong compared to the dollar or the euro. So on Fiverr you have the possibility of earning in a stronger currency which could be worthwhile if you live in a country with a good conversion rate. You are also able to be paid via PayPal.

We’ve purchased several gigs on Fiverr and it was usually simple, easy and straightforward. We’ve had work done on this blog as well as other projects from Fiverr gigs. We also have a few of our own gigs on Fiverr that are related to English teaching. If you’re looking for a service that can be done online you are likely to find it on Fiverr.

Cons of Fiverr

One con of Fiverr is that they charge a 20 percent fee for all sales made. So for example if you sell a gig for $5 Fiverr would take $1. They also charge $1 to withdraw to your bank account. Also depending on your gig there could be a lot of competition. But if you know your stuff and can provide value then you will be recognized. Even though it may take some time at the beginning to build up sales if your service is good then you could have repeat customers every month as well as referrals.

Final Thoughts

So Fiverr may not be for everyone but it could very well be a good fit for you in your situation. Check it out and see if any of the services offered are things that you are good at. Who knows, maybe you might find a way to help support yourself as a needgreater, pioneer or just in general. We’ve read about some needgreaters that only work through Fiverr and it has worked out well for them. If you don’t feel like it’s a good match maybe you might just end up buying some of the services offered. The fast majority start at $5 and some provide great value!
