Well Saturday night Kanicia and I attended our first meeting with the French group in Murcia. It was the public talk and Watchtower study. We meet in the main hall for this meeting since no other congregations use the hall on Saturdays. We had around 30 in attendance and participation during the WT study was very nice. The kingdom hall is beautiful and it reflects the local building style. It was built with a quick build program from the branch over two weekends. The hall is neat because they use a common style of microphones in Spain for the friends commenting. Instead of having two roving mics on each side of the hall they have microphones at every seat which act kind of like walkie-talkies. When you are called on to comment you just reach forward and pick up the microphone and hold down the talk button to give your comment. It’s pretty cool!
At the end of the meeting after the prayer the brother announced Kanicia and I as new members of the group and everyone warmly welcomed us by applauding. We felt very welcomed and are happy to be in the group. We were able to meet many of the publishers and we look forward to getting to know them all better. After the meeting a large group went to a local restaurant to share a meal together. We arrived at the restaurant at about 10pm which is typical for Spanish culture. Oh by the way the meeting started at 7:30pm. We didn’t leave the restaurant till around midnight! We all had a good time and were able to get to know one another better.
We’ve learned some more about our circuit and the French field here. There are 22 French congregations in the country and 22 French groups. We will meet for our assemblies in Granada and we should be having one coming up in January. We will meet for our District convention in Barcelona. We look forward to sharing more as time goes on!
